Loran J. Skinkis: Illustrator & Graphic Designer
Loran J. Skinkis is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who fell in love with illustration, design and COMICS at an early age and never quite gave them up! An early fascination with Superman comics led him to wonder who made these magnificent newsprint adventures and more importantly HOW?!?
Admiration of these 4 color gems led Loran down the path of being an obsessive comic book collector and the obsession also led to the goal of creating comics.
After graduating High School in 1989, Loran joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. His unit was activated and sent overseas to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm during the Persian Gulf War (1991). The experiences in the service and in Southwest Asia influenced his style and stories he tells. After returning home, Loran went to school at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh majoring in Visual Communications.
Some of Loran's artistic inspirations are Curt Swan, Murphy Anderson, Dave Hunt, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Herb Trimpe, John Buscema, Joe Sinnott, Ernie Bushmiller, Charles Shultz, Henning Dahl Mikkelsen, Virgil Finlay and many, MANY more Golden Age and Modern artistic greats.
Loran has worked on such titles as Photocopy Comix Illustrated, The Electric Owl, Pastaman, Star & Stripes, Burgh-Man, The Pittsburgh Steel-Man, The Field on the Edge of the Woods, Chutz-Pow (vol. 3), Twiggy the Stick, Earthlings and most recently The Legends of Log.
Loran is currently working on many new and exciting projects both locally and overseas.
